What do you think would be the best SAT prep book for me?

I am REALLY bad at math. I'm in pre-calculus right now, but for some reason basic math problems (like algebra and geometry) just confuse the heck out of me. It's probably because I didn't learn much in my algebra class back in 8th grade and I was just really bad at geometry during 9th grade. I want something that will not only help me practice my math skills, but also explain the things I have trouble with.

My reading is pretty good, but of course I could do with some common vocabulary SAT words to learn. My writing? Haha, I took the practice SAT test and I just about freaked out. So basically, I need practice on my timing and planning. Some good essay examples would be great. Oh, and sometimes the prompts seem kind of confusing to me. Just thought I'd add that in.

I don't know what I got on my practice SAT test yet, but I'm expecting that I did HORRIBLY. ESPECIALLY on the math. And no, not just CC horrible (aka "oh nooo I got a 700 on the math portion how dreadful"). I mean like, just. plain. horrible. However, I got a 160 on my psat. So, still not good. I really want to have a score of 1800+

Anyone got any recommendations? :)

If you pm me I can send you a few free chapters of my SAT Math Strategy book. Then you can decide if it is for you. I just want to emphasize that the main purpose of this book is to raise your SAT Math score - it focuses on strategies, problems, and their solutions - it is not designed to teach algebra and geometry, etc. (you will still learn a lot of math if you read this book carefully, but that is not its primary purpose).

As far as algebra goes, it is always best to avoid doing algebra on SAT problems (sometimes it’s unavoidable but only on harder problems which appear later in the section).

My expertise is in Math, so I can’t really recommend anything for Verbal, but I do recommend that you use the blue book by the College Board for practice tests. You should do about 4 of these practice tests before the SAT if possible. Primarily however you should focus on learning SAT specific strategies and practicing SAT Math problems for 10 to 20 minutes a night.
