What do you think?

I’m a freshman considering transferring. I was accepted to my two safties, an itty bitty Tier 1 LAC in the middle of nowhere(< 1500) and a gigantic super-urban state school (25k+). I decided to go to the LAC (because of a very nice scholarship), but at this point I’m not to thrilled, because:

I really don’t like the culture of the school – I’m not really fitting into the social scene, which is frustrating. Most of the social life involves sitting in a room and getting trashed while watching a movie. I don’t drink, and it’s been hard finding people who I like who don’t drink. I’m also getting annoyed with the “preppy factor”.

I’m a liberal arts major at a science-oriented school. The course selections in my areas of interest (philosophy and history) are pretty small. People don’t seem very engaged in the philosophy classes I’ve been in so far (probably because they’re moving at a snail’s pace), though I’ve heard better things about history (which I wasn’t able to schedule because they conflicted with everything else)

I know things might get better second semester, but I plan on putting in some applications in for transferring 2006. I’m looking for schools that’s not huge (medium-sized or medium-small), either urban or with easy access to an urban area, and with solid departments in the liberal arts. (Obviously not every school I consider will fit every criteria, but that’s sort of the general idea.

I’m expecting a GPA for the semester between 3.5-3.7, any suggestions?

Currently I’ve been considering Brown and Haverford or Bryn Mawr, as well as maybe Barnard and Wesleyan.

(Sorry for the long post  )

where are you now?

I'd rather not say, but my schools at the very very bottom of Tier 1, and in the mid-atlantic.

I forgot to mention my HS stats, but:
GPA: 3.48 Unweighted (Probably closer to 3.4 if my honors electives are discounted)

SAT 1: 1480 (800v, 680m)
SAT2 W: 700
SAT2 Math 1c: 630
SAT2 W. History: 680

Extracurriculars that mattered:
Band Section Leader So-Jr years (both marching and concert)
Debate team captain (Sr)
Scholastic Scrimmage Captain (Sr.)
NHS (Sr.),
Leo Club (Fr-Sr)
Musical Theatre (Fr-So)

Let's try this again =)

. . . and again?

Haverford seems to admit almost no transfers, so that'd probably be a high reach for anyone. The rest of your schools are all on my list of dream schools, though I'm not sure which I'm applying to yet.

Yeah, I realized how few transfers Haverford admitted, which is why I'd also apply to Bryn Mawr, which according to my friends has better food.

I'm not exactly sure where I should apply, either.

I think this needs a bump -- I don't feel like rewriting this stuff.

I'm taking History and Political Science next semester, to see if those departments are better, as well as Russian and Sociology because they were the only classes I could fit.

Classes look something like this:
Russian II (4 CR)
Intro to Amer. Gov't (3 CR)
Intro to Sociology (3 CR)
Sem: Samurai Legends and Lives (3 CR)
Band (1 CR)
Politics in Islam (Special Offering - 1 CR)

So far the social scene hasn't picked up. I feel like an outsider, and I really don't like it. GPA for the semester will be at least a 3.5.

So, any suggestions guys?
