What do you think?

I can get a letter of recommendation from a senator (knows both of my uncle's very well and owes them a favor), but the problem is... I've never met him or talked to him. So my question is this: Should I accept the letter of recommendation and send it to the schools I am applying to, or not? The problem with the letter is that it may be generic... BTW, I am applying to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, Amherst, Cornell, Duke and Penn. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

try to meet with him. if it sounds generic, it can only be a negative. if it comes across like "i know his family and ive met him and yada yada" it would be a very good thing for your app.

You should give the Senator some specific points about yourself that he can highlight in the recommendation. Or, you could write a draft and have him review it, edit it, and sign his name.
