would like to hear opinions from those who are able to visit at Accepted Students Open House. S is trying to decide between Providence and Loyola and will not be able to attend either Open Houses. Any insights would be appreciated.

I can’t speak to Accepted Student’s Day, because our son is a freshman at Loyola and we were unable to attend the event last year. Since he could not make it, we tried to find another way for us to get a feel of campus life. Loyola staff was not helpful, but don’t let that steer your opinion. Last year at this time, I used college confidential and was able to correspond with the mom of a Loyola freshman, who helped us to get in touch with her son Kevin. Kevin took the time to host us and give us a personalized tour of the campus on the weekend following Accepted Student’s Day. We were so impressed with his hospitality as well as with the campus atmosphere, the inside scoop he offered, and the facilities.

Now, one year later, I can not say enough about Loyola. Our son has flourished and has enjoyed every aspect of life at Loyola. We toured PC, yes it is a terrific option, but we can speak with experience to tell you that Loyola offers an education, not only in the classroom, but through retreats, First Year Experience, Evergreens and Leadership programs, that puts Loyola over the top.

Enjoy the selection process and congratulations that Loyola is on your list!!

Thanks Warrior123 for your help! S is probably going to decide on Providence because it is only 2 hours from our house and Loyola is at least 4 on a great day but 5-8 with traffic. I am a bit sad because Loyola seems great and everyone that we know who attends seems to love it. Good luck to you and thanks again!

I feel compelled to encourage you to take the proximity to home out of your equation and I know from experience that can be difficult to do. We live one hour from PC and 6 hours from Loyola. Our son is our youngest child and wasn’t interested in going far from home. Loyola offered more money than any of his other offers, and that steered the decision. In the end, we are so happy with his decision to attend Loyola. His experience has been priceless.

We can private message if you would like details, but I can’t say enough about Loyola.

You should check airfare to your closest airport. We have flown our son home for as little as $90.00 round trip out of BWI. And don’t worry about traveling alone, it will all fit into place and your student will grow from the navigation experience (getting to and from the airport).

There may be a reason to pick PC over Loyola, but do your child a favor and don’t make the decision based on proximity to home.
