What do you think?

I have a 3.5 weighted GPA and have gotten a 1490 on the SAT (ya I know not too good :( ) I've taken 3 AP tests and have passed 2 with 3s (US history and Art History)

I plan on taking the SATII subject tests this weekend on US and World History
I would like to get into a UC but I feel kinda mislead. At one point I was gonna settle for ANY UC only because of the name UC in front of it. That's not how this **** should work huh? Just because it's called UC doesn't mean it's automatically better than any CSU.

I'm wondering if I should strive for a less pristigeous UC rather than a CSU. What do you folks think? And also can one explain whether it's easy or not to transfer from a CSU to a UC

thanks for reading

Preferences for transfer to a UC actually go to people in California Community Colleges (because these schools don't award Bachelors' degrees, but the Cal States do). Then if there are spots still available, they take the Cal State transfers or transfers from one UC to another. Lastly, they take transfers from other states--giving preference to those students who went to high school in California.

As far as the best Cal States they would be (in order): Cal Poly SLO, San Diego State, San Jose State, Sonoma State, Cal State Long Beach, Chico State, and Cal State Northridge. Then Fresno State and San Francisco State would be next.

I actually doubt that you could get into Cal Poly SLO or San Diego State with that SAT score, but the others should be possible. As far as the UCs, you are good for UC Riverside and UC Merced, and probably UC Santa Cruz. (the best rated of the three). I wouldn't worry too much about the prestige factor. For example, UC Merced isn't rated highly (it's the lowest rated UC), but that's because it only opened two years ago. It is the first new UC built in 30 years. For this reason, every building is brand new.

Strangely enough, if you want to major in business, UC Riverside and UC Merced are two of the three UCs that have undergraduate business schools. The other is UC Berkeley--the highest rated of the ten UCs. The UC Riverside business program ranks 77th nationwide and about 5th in the state after UC Berkeley, USC, Pepperdine, and Santa Clara. (I think it is tied with San Jose State's program).

Anyway, good luck whatever you decide.

USC baby! (10 characters)

USC--Reach

TonyB:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB/UCLA: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Slight Reach
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Match

go CSUN! and UC Merced doesn't have a undergrad business program...
