what do you think

SAT: 690/660/700 (M/V/Writing) cumulative after 3 times. (I know they blow)
SAT II: 720/720/720 (Math I/Math II/Chemistry)
GPA: W 3.654 (Highest in school is 3.9 b/c some people go to a magnet school, giving them a gpa advantage!!!!)
GPA: UW (Unknown, but about the same or a little higher because of the school grading system)
Class Rank: 8/172 (top 5%)

National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society and have been nominated by school to receieve full scholarship to university of Connecticut. 140 hours of community service.

I own butterfly-host.com

Will have taken 7 AP courses with high Bs or As in all. What sucks is that this year (senior) I have As in all my APs cause I am taking 2 math APs, my best subject, so it wont reflect at all to colleges. Also, took the AP Bio test without taking the class and got a 3 on it...if that makes any difference.

I applied Nov 1 to LSA and also preferred admission to U of mich. Chance me please!

It looks good.

% chance at preferred admission and LSA?

Peferred Admit to what?

Michigan is probably a Match / Slight Reach. They weigh GPA heavily, but your class rank makes up for it a bit.

Your GPA and SAT are below average, but your class rank is impressive. I'd say Michigan is a slight reach for you. You definitely have a shot though. In terms of pre-admit, I assume you mean Ross. If that's the case, I'd have to say Ross is a reach.

If 3.65 is weighted, then you are a definite reach.

Alexandre,
How is tushar's SAT low for Michigan?

According to US News, the middle 50% at UM:

Verbal:
590 – 690
Math:
630 – 730
Combined:
1220 – 1420

Tushar has a combined 1350 verbal/math score. Would this not be towards the upper end of that middle 50%?

Those mid 50% SAT scores are a couple of years old. Last year's were significantly higher. Most elites had leaps in their mean SAT scores in 2002 and 2003. Michigan experienced its first leap last year and should experience another leap this year.

Here are last year's mid 50% ranges:

Math: 650-760
Reading: 610-720
Combined: 1260-1480

http://www.admissions.umich.edu/fastfacts.html

I'd say the mean last year was roughly 1380 and this year should go up to 1400 or so.

By slight reach does that mean likely? because i know my GPA is low, but its the school GPA which messes it up. Its cumulative for 3 years. Doesn't U of Mich recalculate it? I really hope I get into U of mIch.

Its preferred admit to Ross.

The way Michigan recalculates GPA doesn't usually benefit (or harm) the applicant. Michigan basically throws out Freshman year and only looks at academic classes taken during Sophomore and Junior year. By academic classes, I mean English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Economics, foreign languages and a couple other classes I can't think of right now. Then, Michigan assigns a value of 4.0 for all A+s, As and A-s, 3.0 for all B+s, Bs and B-s, 2.0 for all C+s, Cs and C-s etc... Like I said, you most likely aren't going benefit from the way Michigan calculates GPA.

By slight reach I mean your chances won't be good, but they won't be horrible either. I'd say less than a 50% chance. Your chances for pre-admit status at Ross aren't good either. Ross pre-admit is much more selective than LSA admissions.

One thing that does stand out is your class rank. A top 5% class ranking is impressive and will help.

wait, your SAT is cumulative... i think michigan only takes single sitting

I'd say michigan is a strong match..but ross is a reach unless you have significant business experience

why cant you benefit from the UMich GPA, my UM gpa is higher then my school gpa, i have a 3.59 school gpa and 3.7 umich, clearly there is a significant difference, cant that help?

I said "usually". Some students have loads of -s (A-s and B-s). Those students will indeed benefit from Michigan's recalculating. Others have loads of +s. Those students will be hurt a little by Michigan's recalculating. But on average, people have almost as many -s as they have +s and as such, they will not benefiot one way or the other.

alexandre - michigan looks at single sitting, right? so then to calculate "chances" wed have to know the OPs best single sitting

That's correct Crouton, Michigan only looks at the highest SAT in one sitting.

in that case I have (650V/680M/640W) For SAT as the highest SAT in one sitting. Secondly here is my business experience: Let me know my chances for preferred admission:

First consider getting into LSA.

Once you get into that than Preferred admissions to ross is a whole different story.

will I get into LSA though? I know my sat scores aren't that good, but my math SAT score should be shadowed by my Math SAT II score right? Secondly, I am captain of Math League. I really want to go to U of mIch.
