Recommendations: 3 solid ones (math, physics, and computer graphics teacher)
Essays: they are good.

I’m a Caucasian female looking to major in mechanical engineering. I love roller coasters, classify myself as a fanatic, and definitely want to pursue roller coaster designing as a career. One of my essays talks about my fascination of roller coasters in a cute, witty way. I hope this doesn’t sound fake, because it’s quite genuine; I go to six flags practically every week when it’s open!!

What do you think are my chances are at these schools? (I know William and Mary and Georgetown do not have engineering)

Brown
Vanderbilt (my brother is currently an EE major there, I’m not sure if that helps. I talked about him in my “Why Vanderbilt?” essay)
Washington University (St. Louis)
University of Virginia
William and Mary
Northwestern
Georgetown
George Washington

I already got into Rutgers with a lot of money, so if I don’t get in to any other school, I’ll have a backup :).

By the way, I live in Jersey and, therefore, I am not in-state for any of these schools.

I appreciate any responses :)

Anyone wanna help me out?:)

ur SAT is low for uva because ur out of state

Do you think they'll look at my ACT score instead?

I think you have a pretty fair chance for all of these schools! A really good and diverse list of extra curriculars and whatnot will realllllly help you out too!

this is wat i call a classical case of grade inflation!! how can anyone get a 4.5 GPA but all 700- SATs? clearly grade inflations!! if one does well in school, one should do well on the SATs (my belief). especially when you are taught in american school system, where you are taught to take tests. In canadian system, we are taught to do well in life, rather than on tests, and our grades are restricted. ppl who have 3.6+uw or a 4.0w weighted can easily get the scores you have on SATs. so even though your "GPA" is good, i highly doubt you'll get in to Brown, Northwestern and Georgetown. No offense man, i got nicer scores and i have my figures crossed for my schools, my GPA is deceptively low compare to american students. GL on your future endeavors.

Some people just are not good test takers, including me. How dare you accredit my academic success to some sort of handicap? I am an honest, hard-working individual that earned all my grades, fair-and-square. My high school is super competitive and just recently LOWERED the GPA points system. The highest GPA in my grade right now is a 4.9. It is very difficult to get all A’s, but some people do it, including me. If you were taught so well to "do well in life" you would know that treating people with respect is a key part of succeeding in life. Why would you even post in here if you have something that negative to say? I would understand if you gave me legitimate reasons as to why I will not get into these schools but bitterness just seems immature and uncalled for. If the colleges know that Canadian schools are a bit harsher with grades then your chances for admission should not be hindered. "GL on your future endeavors".

herestoyou:

Your SAT & ACT scores are within range for all yours schools, giving you a good starting chance; together with your GPA, & EC's I think you'll be an interesting candidate, with good chances. Good essays & recs will be a good plus.

Most colleges will look at the highest score among the tests you've taken. Vanderbilt does give consideration to alumni relation, so having your brother there will definitely help. The fact that you are out of state might prove a disadvantage at UVA, where in-state status is given high consideration.

Congrats on Rutgers and good luck!
