Hey, I'm Amanda, and I'm a senior...I just applied to Marist!

my SAT scores are
620 CR 690 M 660 W
and ACTs were 30 composite.
I go to a small, private school.
I'm 8th in my class and my GPA is 3.69.
I'm a member of the National Honor Society, so I do some community service.
I basically run my school's Habitat for Humanity Club.
I'm co-editor of my school's newspaper.
I take AP English and AP US History, along with honors classes...I took three years of Latin and one year of Spanish.
I'm taking a tv/video production class and I'm secretary of the club, too.
I LOVE THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, and I've won two small scholarships from their Charitable Foundation for essays.
I want to write about them someday!
Do you think I'll get in? And when will they let me know?
What's it like there? How many people are in the dorm rooms?
thanks!

Well, Amanda, your stats are sure better than my son's were and he got in EA. He is currently a freshman majoring in Communications. They probably will accept way less than 50% of applicants this year, but I would say you have a very good chance. Seeing that you've won essay contests, I'm sure you had a fine essay, and I believe, in my son's case, that the personality he showed in the essay was the clincher. My son applied EA for Dec. 1st (last year), and got a reply in the mail Jan 17th. Amazing that I still remember the date! I don't know if the dates will be the same this year, though, so good luck.
It is a very beautiful campus, right on the Hudson, and my son has a river view! (and one roommate). There are dorms for freshman, and you could be double, triple or quad, depending on where you choose. His dorm is Champagnat, which is attached to the student center, great for being able to get to the dining hall without going outside. The food there is kinda meh, but I'm sure many campuses are like that. Freshman can't have cars, and there is no campus shuttle to take you places, but my son has made some upperclass friends with cars and does get out. They have a lot of organized weekend trips--to NYC or the local mall. Lots of activites--son does radio and tv, but even though he worked on his HS paper, has chosen not to do that. The class size is great-one of son's classes had 11 people in it. I will say that there are more girls than guys on campus, and it was really entertaining to watch the students behaviors when we were there to visit! There are partyers and there are people who don't. So far, my son hasn't had pressure to be either--he just hangs with people he likes, and he is having a great time. Hope this gives you a taste of things. Keep in touch and let us know how things go.

add: I see you've also applied to Quinnipiac---my son got in there, too. For me, the tuition was too high for what you get. They are doing a lot of building, I think a new athletic center, and have a super communications building. There is not much in the general vicinity unless you have a car. My son did not feel the love when he visited. Since we live very close, it's kind of hard for me to describe the area, as he would have probably have asked us to pick him up or borrow the car for the weekend so he could visit friends. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more.

I applied EA with similar stats...1310/1960 SAT's with 30 composite ACT
