My high school is ranked #49 in the nation by a nationally published news magazine.

you should look at naviance if your school has it. your AP course load is pretty low considering that most students at your school take 4 APs(according to data) and realtively weak ECs compared to what your school offers. you do have a slim chance, according to your schools class rank range your around 32-45%.

if anyone else wants to chance using data. http://www.charterschool.org/aboutUs/schoolProfile.htm

Dear ascout15 : Individual profiles that stress the highly competitive aspect of their High School over personal achievement and highlight their High School’s ranking as a personal badge of honor generally turn out to be poor. Their authors typically believe that there is a built-in “right” of acceptance to any school based on their High School attendance rather than individual achievement.

Your profile clearly falls into that category.

Being in the 30th percentile in terms of class rank places you into a range that Boston College typically does not admit. Only 4% of the admitted undergraduate class graduated High School below the top quartile in rank. Your AP course load is missing the calculus sequence and the chemistry/physics combination. Both of these missing components would indicate that you are not taking the most rigorous curriculums available from such a highly competitive scholastic environment.

Your extra curriculars are missing many factors found in other’s profiles : sports engagement, music/fine arts experience, honor societies, leadership positions, High School involvement (clubs demonstrating school spirit).

Quite frankly, your profile does not offer much to the Boston College campus. Your profile does not present a sense that you improve the campus fabric. There are thousands of applications with stronger numbers and stronger extra-curriculars. Further, most applicants will demonstrate a stronger sense of self-achievement rather than entitlement.

Based on what you have presented here, which likely carried through to your essay, your chance of acceptance is small. We suggest that you spend some time here on the Boston College board and review some of the other chance-me threads to get a sense of the level of competition that you will be facing. While your board scores are in the second quartile, your profile beyond those numbers is lacking.

ascout:

sry, I don’t do chances, but just wanted to chime in and wish you good luck. As someone who worked my way through HS and college, I can understand that your school involvement becomes limited when you have a PT job. Perhaps the adcom will see the same.

ascout, I also wish you good luck and though this is a reach school for you, I think that you still have have a fighting chance. You seem to be qualified to do the work and with schools of BC’s caliber, it’s all about diversity once you get qualified applicants. Most students do not work part time (at least where I’m from) and I agree with bluebayou on that count.
