What do you think?

Dear reader,

Hi, I just need some advice and some guiding. I will give you my current stand as a college student along with my high school stats.

SUNY Buffalo (UB)
Major - Finance
Freshmen first semester overall gpa - 3.85
Business Calc- A
World Civ. A
English- A
Microeconomics- A
Macroeconomics- B+ (Should I retake this to get an A?)

HS
Overall gpa- 3.09
EC- Intern at ACS American Cancer Society for the Summer.
Volunteered at my elementary school's after school program
volunteered at my local library over the summer.
Interned at a Real Estate Company (worked as an Assisstant for a particular real estate agent).

I'm thinking about transfering into NYU Stern, Cornell AEM, UPenn Wharton, Michigan Ross.
I really want to transfer out of UB. So I what I want to know is if I transfer for Junior year with the same gpa or better, which colleges have the potential of being a safety for me, and which ones should I consider as reaches. I would love to work in NYC after I graduate, so I'm not sure if going to a college(Berkley Hass) in west coast would permit that. (I worry that NYC recruiters won't go all the way to colleges in the West coast).
Also what other colleges should I look at? In particular for Finance majors.
I'm open to all feedbacks and comments.

i suggest waiting another year to transfer, especially if you’re looking into those particular schools, because your HS stats are too weak for them. with another year of strong college work under your belt, you will be a much more competitive applicant.

I would not retake intro macro, but I would consider taking intermediate macro. I agree that you should wait another year to transfer. Have you checked out Babson?

ironicallyunsure - yeah, I thought that transfering in junior year would be perhaps the only chance I’ve got bad hs records, thanks for reassuring my decision.

college_ruled - I’ll look into intermediate macro, but for now i still have to take all the required courses I need to complete before transferring in. I’ve never heard of Babson, but I’ll check it out.

If I wanted to work in NYC or just New York in general, does it matter where I go to college? As long as I get a high gpa and go to a prestigious college I’ll still be able to get the job that I want right?

I second ironicallyunsure’s assessment.

Where you go to college matters in everything, but the question is to what extent. Talk to people in business/finance and see if pedigree matters as much as I suspect it does.
