what do you think?

our school has this teacher who is a complete ass and had a policy last year where you were to bring food etc if you forgot something in the classroom. a lot of teachers do this for various conditions, it's more of a friendly way to remind students to not do whatever the punishment was for (in most cases you're not actually obliged to do so)

but from what i've heard this year he's charging money. so if you leave your binder in class you have to pay the teacher or else you don't get it back. i mean, the "price" you pay for the lost item probably wouldn't be as much as buying food for the class (we have relatively small classes though) but even in the cases that was obligatory, the food was for everyone and it was a nice excuse to cut some class time.

and now it just feels like full on scamming. that person isn't my teacher but this is just so ... wrong. any thoughts?

When in doubt, do what all Americans do. Sue.

Huh, what? That sounds really silly. This makes your teachers seem like really greedy, hungry, fat, and lazy people. The rationale doesn’t seem to make much sense. I mean everyone forgets stuff sometimes…Hmm I think I would complain to your principal or someone else.

I don’t agree with that. I’d suggest that you tell your principal or someone else who possesses more authority than your teachers.

The teacher seems really petty, I’d confront the teacher about it. What’s the worst the teacher can do send you to the principal? If you get sent to the principal all you have to do is tell him or her about the teacher’s “hostage” scheme and you’ll be in the clear and the teacher will be in trouble.
