What do you use for extra bed for visitors?

For a few nights, sure. It’s quite big when it’s pulled out so be mindful of the space it will be in.

I have one of those queen on the bottom, single on the top bunk beds in the space now, so room shouldn’t be a problem. The real problem is trying to decide whether I should totally rearrange furniture and make the closet more functional. (Like many 1920s houses between the two kids rooms are two closets and a linen closet facing the hall. But the closet doors are normal sized doors on one end of the closet so there is approximately two feet of space in each closet that is virtually inaccessible.

Maybe consider doing a project to make that space usable? Because a little project like that will sure be quick and easy

My son just moved into a 2 bedroom apartment. For the 2nd bedroom for when people visit, we got a daybed with 2 twin mattresses. It offered the best flexibility. (we got it from Mattress Firm). This way during the day its almost like a couch. that room is used for his home office.

I’ve been thinking about doing it ever since we moved into this house! Over 20 years ago…

Does the extra mattress go on the floor? Or is there a pullout?

its a trundle that pulls out

We have a queen Murphy bed that looks like a cabinet when folded up, plus we saved two twin mattresses and the pop-up part of a trundle bed

I used an air mattress for years and put blankets under the sheets. It worked pretty well and the room had no heat source except a space heater. I do prefer the room really cold, so the blankets kept me from being too cold on my backside. In the summer, took the blankets off.

Costco has something similar right now. Just saw it in our local Costco.

Each of our couches are pull-out.

I recently got myself a new king bed and put my old queen bed in my guest room. The guest room is doubling as a guest room/office. We haven’t had anyone stay over all year, though we are having my 2 friends and their 6 year old over for a night sometime in the next month. My guess is we’ll put the two adults in there and then put the kiddo on the couch, or on a futon upstairs.

Or the 6 year old will be sleeping in the queen with the parents!

That could happen as well.

I have a daybed with a pop up trundle in my guest /exercise room. D slept on a spider bed–they have a new name–that is a blow up bed on a frame. Fits into a zipped bag. Has a motor. I wish I had done that instead of the daybed. D slept on it 2 years and I shared it with her on visits. Super comfortable.

Although expensive, I bought an American Leather pull out sofa for when I had an extended family member move in for a year. There is no bar under the mattress. Instead it is a foam or gel mattress attached to a wood folding board. Used with a mattress topper, it was a good long-term solution for us.

We have that IKEA Hemnes bed. When pulled out it fits two twin mattresses side by side. We stack them on the bed when no one is using it. We turn them perpendicular to the bed frame when we have them side by side, and it’s about like a king bed. We have standard mattresses (not the thin IKEA ones) so it’s a bit princess-and-the-pea for one person if they’re stacked. It doesn’t slide to expand easily on carpet but it works great in general.

We also have used air mattresses with a roll-up two inch memory foam pad on top (we got them at Costco) at times as spare beds at my daughter’s house, and that is definitely more comfortable than the air mattress by itself. I could sleep fine on just the foam pad but my husband could not.

Can anyone tell me which air mattresses are the most comfortable? We are remodeling upstairs and have visitors coming at the end of October. H and I have not decided yet on what we want for sleeping in the office/guest bedroom. I don’t want to rush out and buy a bed or sleeper sofa until we figure out what we really want so I would like to buy a really good queen air mattress. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for that review. I really need to bite the bullet and just do it!

The most comfortable air mattress is the one that doesn’t lose air overnight. I much prefer a plain air mattress with a memory foam topper.
My parents had one that inflated into a full bed with a frame. The brand I’m seeing online is EZ-Bed. It presents more like a regular bed and was reasonably comfortable as air mattressesgo. Much more expensive than a standard air mattress though. It wouldn’t be my first choice but some might like it. It was about the size of a large suitcase when stored.

Someone in my neighborhood on the Nextdoor app is advertising a futon murphy bed in a cabinet like the one below. I was wondering if anyone had something like this?
