I have at least an hour between classes everyday, so I'm thinking about bringing my laptop with me to fill in that spare time.. What do people at UCLA usually use to carry around their laptop?

well i’m not a ucla student until september but i’ve taken CC classes and had gaps between. I’d bring my laptop in a Targus laptop backpack… that way I could have my books/supplies in there and my laptop in there and protected since it’s designed for laptops.

laptop sleeve, then put it in my backpack.

yea get a laptop sleeve and just leave it in there permanently so you can still look hip with your jansport.

lul

I use Waterfield SleeveCases. They’re custom made for your laptop, have a very comfortable strap, and has a sleeve on the back for you to put random papers, syllabus, or other things. Very light and good for my needs, since I don’t take books on campus and I put my notes on my notebook.

I have a North Face Borealis backpack, has a laptop sleeve built in (not super padded), but it fits my 14" thinkpad, although I have an additional sleeve to use if I feel extra paranoid.

^ yeah my backpack has a built in sleeve but i usually put my laptop in a “real” sleeve also. double the protection =)

I put it in my Swiss Gear backpack. Not a good idea. Even though it’s for laptop, I have to be extra careful when I walk down those weird stairs by Covel. Result: my laptop screen hinge is very loose. So I advise you to get a sleeve.

Mm, mine has a securing strap to keep it nice and snug. But then again, it is a thinkpad tank

My one dollar targus backpack :). It’s the ugly orange one. You can’t miss it if you see it. Its so ugly. I see other people on campus have it and I’m like “Did he/she get it for one buck as well? :D”

i just shove my macbook in my backpack, its got a superthin sleeve with no paddings but it wouldn’t fit in the sleeve if i get a padded one, its working out for me so far lol

I carry it in my roller backpack. (I’m too weak to carry it on my shoulders.) It works well but roller backpacks don’t like stairs, so I have to always take elevators and handicapped ramps.

So does anyone actually bring their laptops to class? Everyday I have at least an hour between classes so I was thinking of bringing mine to get some stuff done during those breaks

I bring my laptop when I have to do research and/or get assignments done between classes (but only this last quarter when it was super crazy schedule wise that I brought it nearly every day). I bring it so I can just pop by Powell and get a bit of work done here and there. It really depends on how gargantuan a laptop you have, and if you’re willing to carry it. Battery life matters too.

I generally always bring my computer to class, and just surf the Internet when I’m in class. (Paying attention to class goes out the window however.) I can’t stand the boredom of sitting in class without something else to look at.
I either sit near a plug if there is one in the classroom and plug in, or I charge the computer up beforehand.

The majority don’t bring their laptops to school. Think about it, it get’s tiring to carry it around all day plus you probably have a book or two plus your notebooks. I don’t carry that shiet around, and I have a 12" laptop. Besides, you can check out a laptop from the library or you may have access to a computer lab. I only take it to school when I will be there all day and I know I probably won’t have access to a computer when I have programming assignments to do. Sometimes the SEAS labs are packed and all the laptops are checked out or it’s just on weekends.

The chances of you getting any work done are slim in none. IMO you’re better off reviewing your notes or doing some of the assigned readings.

computer + short break –> internet –> youtube/facebook/etc = not getting shiet done

why even bother going to class?

incase they say something profound… they tend to do that once a quarter or two :D

Do people not take notes with their laptop??? I was fully planning on just using my laptop as my notepad… [Circus Ponies NoteBook - Award-Winning Mac Application - Organization for a Creative Mind](http://www.circusponies.com/)

depends on the class.

Yeah, I’m thinking of buying a Netbook to take to classes for note taking. I mean it’s very small and portable, with generally a lot longer battery life than most laptops (i’ve seen some netbooks with a battery life of up to 9 hours, which is plenty enough for a days worth of classes), and it’s cheap (about $300-400 for a decent netbook).
