@TheGreyKing Speaking on point #2, I’d like for that to be a focus as more high schoolers are nearing the voting age. But the challenge people tend to disregard is “why would you listen to something you so fundamentally disagree with?” I’m trying to make a habit of looking into candidates and doing some research about them . . . but in baby steps first, cuz I just registered to vote in my state. Thank you government class!
Can teaching civics in school counteract the deluge of political garbage from hyper-partisan exaggerated conspiracy stories on television, blogs, and social media shares that have little regard for actual facts, and parental examples of believing such?
And then any mention of any current events will get a group of vocal parents complaining about “biased fake news” in the classroom, because it does not fit their notion of hyper-partisan “truth”.
Even history of events over a century is subject to such divides. For example, the cause of the Civil War (or even the name of such…).
