When my daughter auditioned for NYU and BU, both school reps told us the audition is half of what they consider for admission (the other half being the student's grades/test scores/extracurriculars). I'm just wondering if the formula is as simple as it sounds. Any guesses? Just killing time waiting for word from those two schools....

At Tisch, the applicants have to pass both the artistic and the academic review. These are two separate reviews. I think that then they decide who to take from the students who have passed both.

^^ That’s exactly what they said at our Tisch info session-- they get two piles, one from admissions where they have the application, essay, stats, one from the auditions, where they have only the audition and the resume to decide from. BU is a little different–I think the Theater dept has more leeway, but I’m not clear exactly how.

I know for sure that BU has different tiers of rating at an audition. I believe there are 4, and when you audition, you are put into one of the tiers. Of course a higher tier will be picked over a lower one, but a high tier with terrible grades might not get a spot over someone 1 tier lower with excellent grades. Of course thats just how i understand it, but it makes sense. In other words, both schools require rigorous academics in addition to a strong audition.
