Obama would have been ridiculed on this site for going to Occidental College.
And Qwerty, how do you know that?

Not a guarantee but some state schools like UCB/UCLA like top 10%. You might get Regents for high SAT scores.

Flyingllama, a quick google searchā¦

I find that a 2400 w/ decent stats usually places you into at least one higher tier schoolāI mean, say you apply to all of them, youāve got pretty good odds =P

It guarantees nothing. It truly depends on the whole picture. Certainly it gives you a better shot at some of the upper-tier colleges, but thats it. Remember, especially for HYPS, a 2400 means almost nothing.

I would say that a 2400 would get you a āsecond lookā from the rest of the ivy league (and comparabale schools, like Hopkins, Northwestern, Duke, etc.); but without solid grades, and ecs, all a 24 can do is pave your way to a full ride at state U.

Though, I would agree with posters saying a sub-2200 jeopardizes admission into T-20. I got a 2250, and Iām going to Cornell, just fyi.

Isnāt there a school - Duke or something - that has never rejected a perfect score?

iām pretty sure duke has rejected perfect scorers. of course i agree with the above posters in the a perfect score GUARANTEES nothing but it certainly does put you in a far better position. for one, they know for sure that youāre either very hardworking or very intelligent. that helps.

the whole argument about different socioeconomic groups being able to afford tutoring and what not:

(a) as from my example, one can get a high score without ANY tutoring, so live with that
(b) life isnāt fair. the rich will get their kids one step ahead in life. itās part of the whole package. odds are thatās why you want to attend an ivy in the first place. so that you can get rich, and have those equally good opportunities for your kids as well.

Two things:

1) lol at the OP. Need for Internet attention much?
2) lol at most posters. CollegeConfidential: self-esteem-crushing excellence since 2001.

a 2400 is a commendable attention. if he wants it, itās a free forum so let it be.

that self-esteem-crushing-excellence and expectations are a large part of why so many CC members are driven to do better and better.

Yes but one must remember academic achievements are largely meaningless.

No need to be bitter. Sure it doesnāt āguaranteeā anything, but it IS an achievement and it will give him a better chance at his choices.
