<p>It actually makes some sense that many Dartmouth LL recipients were deferred Yale EA. Probably not many of those accepted EA bothered to send in their Dartmouth apps (unless they had sent them in already), and applicants who got deferred EA were presumably toward the high end of the nonadmitted pool. Finally, couple those points with the fact that a high percentage of the strongest applicants in the country (particularly those more interested in the East Coast, who would be less inclined to prefer Stanford) applied to Yale, and it all fits.</p>
