I currently got deferred from Early Decision Round from an Ivy school. I wanna know what exactly does it mean? Does it mean there are missing documents? Does it mean they do see potentials in the deferred applicants? Or they are simply waiting for all missing documents to arrive before making a final decision so they defer the applicants? I just want to know all the possible reasons for being deferred so that I would not repeat the same mistakes or I would perhaps improve certain parts of my application. Thank you.
You weren’t accepted ED and they’re putting you in the RD section . But you’re not rejected
Yeah I know that my application will be considered again during the Regular Round, but I would also like to know what are some possible reasons for being deferred. Is it because some of the required documents were not there in time? But thank you very much for your reply.
They got everything, or it would’ve been impossible to make a decision.
They want more now . Like maybe updated SAT scores , your mid year report showing high grades , maybe 2 more recs.
If it’s an Ivy school, then the reason you were deferred is probably sheer competition. They have so many outstanding applicants, but they just can’t admit them all. Every Ivy school received more ED/EA applications than their entire freshman class. In the ED/EA round, recruited athletes frequently receive some of the spots. Even if every single applicant was incredible/outstanding, they can’t admit them all, because they also need to accept students in the regular decision round.
