What does a first generation going to college gives you advantages in the admission process?
And why?

Hi HAM and welcome to CC! Some questions are asked frequently on CC, and yours is one of them. As a new member you can find out a lot using the Search function, for instance, one thread I got when searching “tip factor” is this:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/718524-how-does-1st-generation-help.html?highlight=tip+factor</a></p>

Do search for other first gen threads too, as the definition of first gen varies with the college, some only recognize students who’s parents don’t have anything further than a HS education, while others will count students who’s parents have some college, but no degree.
