I'm just wondering.
i got a letter. and im not sure if i got rejected or waitlisted.
what does a rejection letter say and what does a waitlisted letter say?

A waitlisted letter says that you've been waitlisted (not enough room) and a rejection letter says that it was a really competitive year, blah, blah, blah.

Haven't gotten my actual letter yet. But I assume online w/l will be the same as letter. Exeter actually said they admired me but due to blah blah blah. And so on.

Haven't gotten it in the actual mail, but here's the e-mail:

Dear Elveedaily,

After long and careful consideration, the Admissions Committee has decided to place your name on the Waiting List for the Fall of 2009. You are a talented student whom the Committee admires.

Detailed information has been mailed to you with instructions for communicating your continued interest.

By agreement, the members of the Ten Schools Admissions Organization will discuss decisions starting March 13. If you have questions, please hold your communications until that date.

bump? [10 char]

why don't you open the letter

A rejection letter will say that they can't accept you; a Wait List letter WILL state somewhere in the letter 'waitlist' or 'Wait List'.

I heard from someone that there are different kinds of waitlist letters, depending on your chance to be accepted. Is this true, true for only some schools, or is it completely false?

And yeah, the letter tells you that you've been waitlisted in the first 2-3 sentences or so. You can't mistake it.

Completely false to my knowledge.

Last year there was a "top twenty five wait list" from Andover. I am sure there will be one this year, rare though (only 25 people).

My friend was waitlisted at a school and it read EXACTLY like a rejection until the last line which was something along the lines of "in spite of this, we believe your talents are admirable and thus are offering you a spot on the waitlist".

i hate reading the letters.
cant they flat out say "REJECTION" if your rejected?
im so sick of making it sound like they care.
because they dont.
they have enough applicants as it is.
anyways. i still havent checked the letter...
should do that soon.

I think they are sad when they reject... It is true that the letters are filled with pointless crap; from the front seeing the non FedEx small package you could have not read it, correct? It was your choice, pat yourself on the back for going through this...

Don't worry this will not inhibit your chances are becoming [insert dream job].

Good luck.

I got a rejection letter from X school and this quote stood out (I know its generic, but it was interesting:"we are sure we are missing out on a fantastic opportunity to meet an incredible person" (well, something like that) isn't that pretty much saying "we're rejecting you, but it's a mistake and we wish we had you"? I know they're not actually saying that, but I find it weird that they would put something like that.

That's pretty D O U C H E thing to do... they should be more truthful... I was watching House "Social Contract" episode today... It's their "social contract" with you.

In my colleges , the acceptance letter usually comes in a big packet; it has information on housing and registering for the school year . A rejection letter is usually letter size and small . For example,if University of Texas replies to me in a small letter tommorow, I would automatically think it's a rejection. But if I see a big packet from University of Texas , I would assume they have accepted me.

I got accepted to UT and I got a small envelope. they didn't even care enough to send me a big packet.
