what does an average week look like for you?

I want to see what other people do with their time because they're probably doing way more than I am.

I am taking 16 units, in class or studying M-F. Saturday, I do a hobby for 3 hours and spend the rest of the day doing what I want. Last Sunday, I wasted all day trying to study and I volunteered for 1 hour. I also do 2 hobby type of things after class on Tues. and Wed.

I feel like I should be doing a lot more...lol but now i can't even volunteer because of the times of my schedule : /

you get to volunteer because you want to. i have to volunteer because it’s mandatory XD

^ got on the wrong side of the law/ or premed

Monday to Friday: around 13 hours of work and 13 hours of class. I return home around 4 or 5 pm and go online, for the most part.

Weekends: homework and social stuff.

class 8 or 9am -4pm every day. work on problem sets/ class projects usually till 3am. Club stuff for ~10hrs a week. 20+ units. Weekends: drink drink drink.

I’m trying to get a lot more involved than last semester, in terms of ECs.

-Weekdays: I have class from around 9 AM to 3 PM, with a lot of inconvenient 1-hour intervals in between. I’m trying to make the most of this “free” time by hitting the books! Whereas before I would’ve just been on the computer or something…I’m also trying to get more into study groups and to find nice study areas on campus. After class is over for the day, I try to get a little bit of homework or studying done each day. I can’t do procrastination again this semester, lol

-Weekends: Kind of lonely, haha. I don’t do much going out, and I haven’t been to SF, Oakland, or Emeryville yet xD I just kinda hang around my dorm, lol, but studying doesn’t really get done too much. Some ECs that I’ve gotten into so far: I recently became a DSP note-taker (whoo), am beginning to hold some kind of leadership position for a club, have begun meetings for another club, and I also have a volunteering job.

babydragon: it’s the former. Apparently being a vigilante is a crime.

I’m trying to get more involved…but am failing miserably .____.

For now, I have class (usually) from 9-5 with a one hour break and a 3-4 hour break where I eat and play catch up with reading…Study for 2 hours after class, meet a friend for dinner, back to study from 8 ish to 11-1 (depends) and then hope my floor is being quiet so I can actually sleep  I’m doing research this semester which hasn’t really started and I’m going to try joining IABC…which should take up like 10-15 hours a week together I think…

I go home for the weekends and just mess around on the computer or play video games hahaha I can’t sleep on my floor (I’m by the lounge and bathroom) and need to rest up for the next week…

Our lives suck xDDD

Tu, Th, Sun are cram for hw+gym+catch up on shows+apply for jobs days. class on M+F 8-3, W 8-5. MWF: usually hang around school until 6 or 7 doing half hw, half browsing the 'net. grab dinner with anyone who’s free or hang out at their place. Sat day: sleep in, volunteer work for 3 hours, catch up with the fam , grocery shop, go for a bike ride, hang out with roomies, lounge, whatever. don’t usually deal with school on saturdays unless i’m pressed for time. if there’s some apt parties going down on fri/sat i’ll usually go, but aside from that nothing really.

rinse & repeat. at least that’s how this semester’s been working out so far…

That’s the Berkeley spirit!

And Batman, you seriously get into character. Major props for being on point all the time. Although, shouldn’t be able to avoid the law with a speedy getaway in the Batmobile? The real Batman does. :p

As for me: Mon-2 hrs of class. Tues and Thurs-class from 12:30-5, and a discussion section in the morning on Thurs. Wed and Fri-only 1 hr of class. My schedule worked out really nicely this semester.

I usually get back in the apartment late afternoon/evening, procrastinate for 2-3 hours, then do readings until 12:30/1ish, whilst still surfing the web. That procrastination time is going to get cut in half pretty soon, because I’m getting back into my ECs. I’m in a leadership position for a club on campus, so I spend 3-4 hours each week on that, plus another 5 for another club that I hold a leadership position in. Occasionally meet up with a friend, but not more than once a week. All this +cleaning apt+goofing off during the weekends+talking to the 'rents+ Sunday reading frenzy=my life. Fun fun fun.

wow I didn’t realize our lives are more or less the same. I thought it was just me wasting time at school till 5 PM lol but I guess everyone has that type of schedule and is in school all day and studying or messin around for the rest of the day. Doesn’t this seem like not such a good way to spend college though? I mean I know we have to study and work hard and all that good stuff but don’t you guys want to look back on your college life as something better than what it is? Idk. Like it’s gotten to the point where I don’t care about taking a year off anymore and living my life up a little bit.

I feel you. On some level, I wish I was out doing amazingly exciting things, moreso than studying, goofing off, and doing club stuff. But then again, I look at my life, and well, even with the stress, I’m happier with my life than I ever was in high school (not that there weren’t some things to like about my high school, but college is still better). I really enjoy my classes, love my extracurriculars, have met pretty cool people at Bezerkely, am gaining a sense of independence and figuring out who I am…life is good. But I realize that not everyone feels that way.

Anyway, I think be eating the “I hate Berks” sentiment come midterm season. Until then, I’m going to try to enjoy as best as I can.

Wake up 4 am. Go to lab, study/hw/research. Eat breakfast at 7 am. Class from 8 am - 6 PM with 3-4 breaks (usually 10 am ish, 1 ish, 4 ish). 6 PM eat dinner with friends, hang out until 8 PM. 8 PM go back to lab do hw/study/research. 11 PM sleep in dorm. Repeat Mon-Fri.

Saturday: Wake up 6 am, go to lab. Study/hw/research. Go back to dorm at 11 to eat brunch. 11-6 = hang out time. 7 pm go back to lab study/hw/research. 12 am go back to dorm.

Sunday: realize how much time I’ve wasted during the week. HW/catching up whole day =[ no lab today.

THat’s a really good way to look at! I need more optimists in my life like you! lol I like what you said a LOT though…my life was horrible in high school. I just wanted to move out of that town and go to a different area but after my freshman year, I decided to stick it out because I knew what to expect and I knew I would be able to get A’s so that I could get into a good college. And that was the most important to me. And look where I am nooow :] so yeah i’m glad that I’m here too. And i’ve learned so much after coming here. I’ve had my ups and downs but life is definitely better than it ever was.

I spend an insane amount of time reading fantasy/sci-fi books or watching shows on my computer like the Daily Show, Colbert Report, Bones, House M.D., Numb3rs, SNL, Community, Parks and Recreation, Desparate Housewives, Family Guy, American Dad, Cleveland Show, random anime, or CSPAN. Then at every other time, I’m either studying or sleeping. I really need to watch shows less…or replace that with socializing…

PS: THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING IN COLLEGE lol. Thankfully I’m trying to change all this this semester since if you want solid A’s as opposed to A-'s and B+'s, then you should not do what I said I do above.

@Diivio: That sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday morning to me. I spend a lot of my time procrastinating along the same lines, with some Netflix and Youtube combined. I’m trying to kick the habit too, as it’d be nice to go to class for once knowing I had completed every single required reading on time…which could probably be accomplished if I stopped messing around on the web, heh. Hopefully we’ll both be able to kick the habit and watch our GPAs soar.

Also, love your selection of shows. Parks and Rec, Daily Show, Colbert Report, House, CSPAN (well sometimes CSPAN)? Excellent. I’ve watched a few episodes of Bones, and it seemed pretty decent. I was thinking about getting into Community, but they cancelled it anyway? So maybe not.

@berklebear: Glad to hear it! I know as Berkeley students, it’s our favorite pastime to complain and moan, but it helps to think every once-in-a-while about how our lives have improved since coming here, otherwise the stress would kick our butts.

hahahaha that is like the story of my life diivio. watching youtube allll day. i discovered that site this year lol jk I always knew about it but I never used it before this year. Btw, this girl I know was in an episode of numb3rs! I’ve never seen that show though.

PS I do my readings before class though because one class has easy quizzes every day! ***. and another class has pop quizzes…grruuhhh and the other one i dont pay attention in cause the teacher is incredibly boring… that’s my other question…

how do you make a boring class interesting? I mean it’s not a boring class per se but the teacher like the weirdest effing person who speaks in one tone and laughs at the dumbest things. the only thing i can think of is making fun of her in my mind and just laugh at the fact that she’s laughing at something dumb. but i still get bored…so what can i do without being obvious…like i dont want to be on a laptop or texting…

lol oh yeah I also work 10 hours a week for my work-study job, so I guess I’m not completely wasting my time lol.

But @bbear:

Is the subject interesting? Perhaps you could come prepared with some good higher level but relevant questions about what she is currently lecturing on and maybe if her answer is appealing to you, you might pay attention more?

Or if you have a friend in that class, try to joke about it with him/her while still paying attention/taking notes so that way you can have fun but still pay attention.

Sorry this advice I’m giving is pretty lame but I Think the idea is to find a way to distract yourself during class that actually causes you to still retain/absorb the information she’s talking about.

The readings are interesting…

Maybe I should sit in the front and ask things but it’s like on…dance…? so there’s not really much to ask. It’s so dumb but I don’t want to like not take the class because it counts for a requirement and I could take another class next semester instead but I might as well get it done with since the times work out too.

But thanks for the help. Yeah I know this one girl in there so I can just talk to her i guess. I think the teacher sees that I don’t care already though lol which isn’t good. My face is just very expressive and I can’t like hide that I’m bored or tired.
