The endowment metric should be per student so St. Pauls isn’t that far off the mark. I agree that size of endowment is not the greatest measure above a certain point and both A and E are way above that point. Andover has better crew.
Has anyone responded: “My kid.”
My kids
From my perspective, it seems pretty pathetic that either would feel the need to boast.
I think you may need to dig deeper to better understand what you want out of the next few years of high school.
This is a very superficial take on these two schools, and it’s concerning if you think “bigger library and… (a few) more classes” is actually meaningful.
Historically, Exeter was considered more traditional (eg formal dress code) and Andover was more progressive (no dress code), but ultimately they are more similar than different. I remember knowing a boy (in the ‘80s) who chose Andover because Exeter didn’t have a boys gymnastics team. I think people choose based on small factors - a specific course, a coach - or campus vibe.
a train to Boston. A big town.
Exeter has a train to Boston as well.
??
At the time I wrote this blog post, I wasn’t even 0 weeks into the application process, and I am genuinely curious as to how much you expected me to know.
And, like everyone else is saying, the two schools are more similar than different, and I was simply pointing out the more major differences that I noticed right away.
It’s not like I could go on a tangent about how much I love these schools and state every single class I would want to attend if I got in, anyway. In my personal opinion, it’s a lot more concerning that you expected me to not have a superficial take on these schools when I was literally asking if Andover had anything that stood out.
To be fair, had you posed the question differently, the responses may have been more helpful. Life lesson - don’t try to feign knowledge you don’t have.
A simple “What are some differences between Andover and Exeter?” (laying aside that the question has been asked numerous times so the responses are available via Google) would elicit more measured responses than "I have done zero research, but let me share my unsubstantiated and superficial PoV.’
It appears Exeter kids have more school pride than PA kids…read Quora (also founded by an Exeter grad).
Exeter’s endowment is now 1.5 billion.
LOLWUT.
@skieurope can we please close this abomination of a thread?
For a serious swimmer, Exeter hosts a club team (SOLO Aquatics) that practices on campus. Andover does not have that option at this time. If a student wants year-round intense training at their fingertips, Exeter has an edge.
