What does being "matched" to a school in Questbridge mean?

I'm not in Questbridge, but in CC conversations I see people mention getting matched to a school through QB. Does this mean that they have to go to that school, or does it mean that that is the only school that will offer them a scholarship through Questbridge?

I have a friend who was matched to Vassar via Questbridge. The application was Early Decision and since she got a free ride, it was binding, and she just graduated in June.

Do you decide what schools you can get matched to, or is it just a random process through top schools that support the program. Also, are all matches ED/EA?

When you apply to QB, you first have to be selected as a finalist. A finalist has the choice to rank schools from the selection of partner colleges. If a finalist chooses to rank colleges, their application is forwarded to the ranked colleges. If the college accepts them, they are “matched.” If you are matched, you have to go to the top ranked college on your list that accepted you, with the exception of MIT, Stanford, Princeton, and Yale. If a finalist does not rank, they still get free applications and can apply RD and ED to any college they want.
