I’ve read every interview thread on CC it seems, and I still am wondering what “casual” means for an interview. I have my Brown interview in a little less than a month and the email says “The dress is casual”
Should I wear flats, jeans and a sweater? Khakis, flats, and a sweater? A skirt, nice shoes, and turtle neck? I was leaning towards the first choice, but after reading other threads it sounds like most people overdress a little more than they expect and usually fit in fine?
Sorry if this has been overdiscussed…

i wore khakis and a blazer…the lady who interviewed me was wearing a turtleneck and jeans so i felt kind of overdressed, but it didn’t really matter. wear something nice enough…but not like heels or a skirt or anything…something that you still feel comfortable in.

Jeans are fine-- it is Brown after all! I would suggest not torn, of course, and a sweater is great. You definitely don’t need to wear a skirt. I always tell my D that she knows what is comfortable for her, and I am sure you do too. Brown is very supportive of each individual, and if you are true to yourself, you’ll feel the most like yourself.

thanks for the advice!

just make sure they’re nice jeans, dark wash would prob be good.

I’m an interviewer. I tell the students I interview to dress casually. Jeans are OK – they don’t have to be dark wash. Sneakers are OK. Khakis or cords are OK. A skirt, dress or jacket would be overkill. I expect clean, no holes and no underwear showing. Wear what you are comfortable in.

my interviewer was nice enough to tell me he would be in jeans. that made it very easy.
