If you had to list 5 things down that a person about to attend Cornell needs to know in order to to avoid unpleasant surprises/fit in, what would they be?

for example: don't wear cornell jackets as people will think you're lame. (totally random on my part) things of this nature.

1) nobody cares how smart you were in high school, or how you got a 2390 SAT
2) want to fit in? get a macbook. 99% of people in the library have one.
3) don’t be late to a small class. it’s rude to the professor and the rest of the students who get interrupted. ive seen this happen a million times and everyone frowns.

thats actually all i can think of off the top of my head for now…

Also, I think there is a strong relationship between the students who hate Ithaca and those who just sit around inside most of the time. Get out and explore the town, it’s a lovely place to be for a few years.

^
I concur. My friends were sitting around with their shades drawn in the middle of the day whining about how crappy Ithaca is. I took them to the massive waterfall just down the street in the middle of town. They had no idea it was there. Never heard them complain again.

Warm waterproof boots make winter much more comfortable.
Ithaca and its environs are an amazing place. Get out and explore.
Your four years at Cornell will go very quickly. Don’t wait to get involved.

Using the average grade report is a terrible way to pick classes. My least enjoyable classes were inevitably the ones I chose based on the easy reputation.

Sign up for gym classes even if you have fulfilled the PE requirement - they’re often a lot of fun.

Agree with all of the above. Take advantage of the many interesting people/lecturers who come to campus. Real life includes very little of this kind of wide-ranging intellectual stimulation.
Go to hear Dr. Maas talk about sleep.
