Does this mean that the actual recommendation is written well? Or the teacher wrote a letter in which he/she compliments you a lot? or.. ????

I think that it is a bit of both. In my opinion, a good recommendation letter is a letter that is extremely well written, as in choice of words used to express opinions, etc. Also, it doesn’t necessarily have to compliment you a lot. I believe it needs to explain who you are as a person, your contribution to the class and how that applies to your future. A recommendation which goes in depth about you and your qualities are much better than short recommendations that state your were the best in the class, and that’s it. Hope that gives you a little more insight.

heres an example of mine:

In all of my 90 years of teaching, i have never ever encountered quite a precocious student as talented and bright as lce. He is wonderful in every way, and brightens not only the class, but the community as a whole. He will make a lasting contribution to the world, and I feel he will go on some day to make important discoveries. If I had to send one person to your school this year, it would be lce.
