What Does GC submit?

What does GC sends to Comm APP? Does he/she sends School report/transcript and rec letter? Does GC know what colleges you are applying? Does GC send SR and rec letter to colleges outside Comm App?

When they send Community service report , do they send total no of hours or they also send what type of community service was performed. Is there template to see what GC submits?

Your counselor sends the School Report. You can have the transcript sent directly from your school separate from that report or your counselor can include it with the school report. That depends on the policies at your particular high school.

The common app does show your counselor all the schools on your dashboard.

For colleges outside the common app, the school report is not the right form. Those colleges may provide their own forms or your high school may use its own.

There is no standard for a community service report and it is not required or even requested by common app schools.

What is in the SR and what is in the Transcript? I would imagine Transcript would contain your grades etc. What is left to be reported then?

I have seen the SR, it lists all my high school courses, grades, GPA etc.

**School Report contents/B:

**Home School Section/B

**Academics **including detailed rank info with class size, w/uw and how many share this rank, GPA including w/uw and what is a passing mark, highest GPA in the class and general rigor of applicant’s courses (on scale from below avg to most demanding).

“Community service report”

That’s a cockamamie myth if I ever heard one. Sounds like a load of rubbish. Please convince me otherwise…

No college requires a community svc report.

niceday, wow, this is extremely helpful. DS and I have been confused by the whole school report thing.

I still have a question. For example, UVA specifically said that they want one LOR from the counselor and one LOR from a teacher. On the common application, they only has the section allowed for three ‘teachers’ so even if you want to ‘assign’ the counselor, you really couldn’t. So I am assuming that the ‘school report’ which has the counselor ‘letter’ will suffice. Just to double check, I e-mailed his counselor to inquire. She replied ‘The school report does not contain my recommendation but my portion of the common app does have a section where I have uploaded my letter, so any school that is on the common app has already received my letter in the counselor section.’

I am confused by her reply. Does that mean DS has to “assign” the counselor for her letter to go to the school or does the “school report” has the counselor letter?

In the School Report - Comments section the counselor has the option of entering information directly or uploading/sending a separate recommendation. 4beardolls, your S’s counselor has apparently elected to submit/upload separate rec. That is the item UVA is looking for, so all is well on that front.

Niceday, Thank you for being the counselor on the counselor issue!

Can you ask your GC that you want to see what they submit to colleges other than their remarks/comments?

Many schools have a publicly available website or pre-printed school profile. If yours doesn’t, it’s fine to ask about that information. Don’t ask about information that pertains to you or any other individual student, though.
