I applied in the college of Engg with Civil Engg as intended major. I got Acceptance Letter of admission with "Undeclared major". It does not talk about which college either. 1) What does it mean? Does it mean they got full in Civil Eng? (2) Is it easy to get any major? Are there impacted majors at GT.

Any help from folks knowledgeable w/ GT system is appreciated.

That is kind of odd. If you applied under Civil Engineering and got accepted, I would’ve assumed you would be accepted under Civil Engineering…

Anyway, it is not hard to switch majors at Tech. In fact, during FASET you can switch your major for “free”. You get 1 free change of major until you reach a certain number of hours, and then you must apply to the certain school, I think. But switching at FASET doesn’t count as the 1 free change of major so I would advise you switching during then.

EDIT: I think you can switch your major before then by mailing something in. Look around the website.

Thanks, Feez. What is FASET? Also, even if it is not hard to change majors within College of Eng, is it hard to change colleges? My letter does not talk about even college, just you are accepted into Undeclared major.

Does GT have any impacted majors, where it is difficult to get into because of limited number of seats available relative to number of qualified students, eg. Computer Engg, or Bio Engg. (Each school seems to have a different set of popular and difficult to get into majors, at least in UCs)

No, GT does not have any impacted majors to my knowledge. Not at the undergraduate freshman level at least. I think it gets competitive for transfers.

Also, I don’t think it’s even hard to change colleges. GT does not even consider your major when reviewing your application. My guess is that they accidentally accepted you as undeclared, or you made a mistake and accidentally put undeclared instead of Civil E.

Thanks Feez and mitan_da1 for responses. These are helpful. But I am a bit confused now.

Feez>GT does not even consider your major when reviewing your application.
mitan_da1>BME is the only real impacted major since it is real difficult to get into.

There is some contradiction. If GT does not consider major while reviewing (accetping) app, then what does it mean BME is real difficult to get into. If the latter is true, are there other majors too that are difficult to get into, e.g., ECE or CS. (both are impacted at Carnegie Mellon, for example)
