That’s not what I was asking lol.
jengajenga117 said almost the same thing about a student at Stanford in one of his earlier posts, one of his “cousins”. I was asking about that.

This is not true. Your ‘region’ in admissions is determined by where you currently live, not which nationality you hold.

^yeah, by googling u could figure out who the 2nd richest person is, and further googling would tell u the names of her kids and where they went. Gettit?

And i stand corrected on the second part. =)

Lol, you didn’t get it. Never mind. :)

Sorry to bump this thread again

Will a B in a transcript affect much provided I have got good class ranking, GPA and standardized scores?

BUMP
Anyone?

Will the personal, familial and economic circumstances be taken into the account? If it restricted and still does the student in some ways…

One B is not a major issue but if you dont get in, dont assume that was the problem.

circumstances are provided on the essays. however, blaming the circumstances will never get you in. It is overcoming adversity is what plays well.

LOL nothing like that its just that i’ll be giving my final exams 2 weeks from now and my prep for Ad Maths is totally inadequate plus the course units are really hard. Not bragging but I have the toughest course load in my class so its really hard some times to keep balance

Oh. I live in Singapore with my folks. So I will be put in the Singapore pool even if i study in UK for a year (A levels)? Man, that’s a bummer! I was hoping to be in the Indian pool from which they accept more applicants. Plus SG pool is way, way competitive. Another question, do they evaluate int. applicants from the region pool or all the int. applicants put together?

Perfect Pixie says :
“Hey 0123456789r: I think as long as you hold an Indian passport you’ll come under the Indian pool only.”

Kimathi says Regional officers—> Regional Committee—> Admission Committee

So this means your application is going to be reviewed by an officer looking over Indian/south asian pool

BTW Don’t you think Indian Pool would be even more competitive as there is a larger pool?

Thanks for your replies.

@ Darth: Well I might be wrong but I gauged that from a variety of factors and presumptions (of which the main one has turned out to be false after some research)

Singapore students who apply to Ivies (most take GCE A levels, some do IB) are usually from very competitive schools and do outstandingly well in academics by pursuing a rigorous courseload.

Also I had assumed the number of applicants that are accepted from Singapore is very small compared to India but I did some research and guess not :
http://www.hio.harvard.edu/abouthio/statistics/pdf/StudentsRankCountrySchool09-10.pdf

Additionally, though Indian applicants (i.e. studied in India) are traditionally outstanding in academics, my ECs could have a slight edge (int debater, adjudicator) etc.

Of course, there is no sure way to determine which is correct and what is what so I guess it could be viewed as a naive attempt to second-guess stuff.

Thanks again

Well best of luck for Harvard :)
