What does it mean? I received an email from Cornell.

We are in the process of reviewing your application for admission to Cornell University under the New York State Educational Opportunities, HEOP or EOP.

After our office verifies your economic eligibility status for H/EOP, the school/college to which you applied will then decide upon your acceptance to the University.

In order to promptly determine your economic eligibility status, it is imperative that you provide our office with some information regarding your household's financial status. A delay in returning the requested material could hinder the chances of your application being processed with regard to H/EOP eligibility.

They reviewed my app already??? What?? What does it mean?

" After our office verifies your economic eligibility status for H/EOP, the school/college to which you applied will then decide upon your acceptance to the University. " O_O

"

Are you international? It sounds like they’ve received it and just wanted to tell you. They also apparently want your financial stuff, if your international your ability to pay can affect whether your accepted or not.

No I’m not an international student…I’m a permanent resident though… (I have a green card)

well it means you’re a student from New York applying for HEOP. This email does not provide any admissions decision, it simply states to send the forms required to determine your HEOP eligibility. The faster you do it, the faster you’d receive a response from Cornell.

Can you gimme a brief on your stats yipyip?

Just wondering?

Yip Yip, I’m in the same boat as you =)
If you dont know what the program is about, HEOP is a program that allows low income students, who are considered “inadmissible” a chance to attend very selective colleges, such as Cornell. You have to attend a pre-freshman summer program if you are admitted, but you do receive other great services regular admission students don’t such as free tutoring and free counseling services. Also, the financial aid package for HEOP students are “the best financial package” (according to them anyway), and the pre- freshman summer program is offered absolutely free.

So, I hope you decide to go through with HEOP if you believe that you qualify. Here’s the link for more information [OMEA: Cornell University/Office of Minority Educational Affairs/ Higher Education Opportunity Programs (H/EOP)](Who is Arthur O. Eve? | Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives)

Good Luck =)

second what desi_chick said. It’s telling you to fill out some financial aid forms because you must have checked off a box about HEOP and EOP (which are only open to NY residents) when you filled out your application. (I got both the email and later some forms in the mail.) It has nothing to do with admission, don’t worry.:)

Edit: yep, exactly what Haha I win said:)

Wait, pre-freshmen summer program are absolutely free? That’s awesome! Hope I qualify.

Did you check off on the Common Application that you wanted to be considered for the HEOP program? You seemed surprise so my guess is no…D did check that box and received the same request for information, we sent everything in (waiting on 2009 documents) and D received an email from a Cornell Alumni not shortly after receiving our financial docs for 2007 and 2008…Good luck to everyone!
