What does it mean if they suggested...?

Well I'm asking this for a friend.

Applied to Bing RD. After submission, the school sent a letter to suggest that she apply for another program at the school. They stated that with her background and credentials, she'd be better fit for said program.

Does this bode well for her admission chances?

Low 1300s/1800s.
3.6
Decent everything else.
In-state resident.

Thanks!

Do you know what program she was applying for, and which one they suggested?

It is probably the same letter many of us got. I got the same letter suggesting trying out another school, the community affairs, I was not interested in the program and I got the impression it is a program they are trying to push.

Binghamton is trying to accomodate as many students as they can; if they suggested another program, it's because your friendwould probably not be admitted for her 1st choice at this point...maybe in the future, their app will have 1st choice school, 2nd choice school etc....

I have a decent GPA 3.7 and my sat score was 1440/2110. If you look at the public affairs school on the website it even suggests that they offer scholarships. Many people got letter pushing the public affairs school. Was that the school kkl?

It doesnt make sense to me if you apply for a school and say you want to major in English why they would push you to consider a school with a major in public service.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, I believe its the same school..

College of Com and Public affairs

Her recommended program was Human Development. So yeahh

same school and there is a thread somewhere else in the Binghamton discussion that mentions all the people that got letters to that school. I am hoping I have a chance at Binghamton, I got into Stony Brook.

If you got the letter, does that mean sureee in? Maybe I'm being a little naive..haha

I think this year it is a crapshoot, with the economy and all. it is much more competitive. A lot of my friends parents told them that they have to apply to state schools because they dont want them carrying so much debt after school. Then there is the fact that credit is so tight, you may not even get loans.

ahhh yeah, i can understand that its a big crapshoot..

we will see...
