Does PIGS AT SEA just have a burr in his/her saddle with these interviews or the admissions process in general, or are these 80% ungrad interviews really meaningless as PIGS AT SEA suggests?</p>

<p>to your specific question - it is not a shortlist, it doesn’t mean you’re special or unspecial, it is rather random. they try to get to as many candidates as possible.</p>

<p>You dont get an interview because of anything good or outstanding etc about your app. The only thing that determines if you get an interview is if there are interviewers in your area and if they were able to schedule you. They cant schedule everyone and therefore it does not mean anything bad for those who dont get interviews. Being offered an interview therefore just means they were able to schedule you. </p>
<p>If those statistics were true…the 20% didnt get interview simply because Columbia couldnt accomodate them…whether because of the number of candidates in a particular region or a lack of interviewers etc</p>

<p>I’m too lazy to look up the actual numbers, but this sounds about right. I think the ED number is much higher because there are just less people.</p>
<p>I applied to Columbia, didn’t get an interview, and was admitted early decision. The interview may have an effect on your admissions chances, but the presence of an interview or lack thereof does not.</p>
