My admission is waitlisted. First, what would my chances be? It says that they will be selecting students based on their institutional needs and priorities, are they trying to say race and gender quotas? I’m a white male, what does it mean in my case?
First, there’s no pattern of chances. Last year 170 out of 2100 waitlist applicants got in. Second, I think " priorities " means how badly someone wants/needs admission to Ga Tech, such as someone who hasn’t applied to any other school
@Dhruv97 But they wouldn’t know that, It didn’t ask how many other schools you applied to in the application or deferred form. I was an early action applicant who was deferred but I emailed my adcon with the suggestion of my counselor and I mentioned that tech is my first pick and why I want to go to GT (the only other school I applied to was uga and I got in early)
I’m just confused, ranked would work much better. There’s a lot of questions on how it could work.
I’m sorry to see that you were waitlisted @Nickst1996. This happened to my daughter last year. Best advice I can give you is proceed with your second choice…I guess UGA. Any acceptance off the waitlist will come after the May 1st deadlines. In my daughter’s case, she was all set to go to University of South Carolina when the phone call came offering her summer admission to Tech. I would suggest emailing your GT admissions counselor again reiterating that you would accept admission off of the waitlist. You might also look into what the requirements are for transferring. Best of luck to you!
“Institutional needs” might have to do with intended majors, too. Even though you don’t really formally declare your major until later, you do apply with an intended major. If you are applying for a major that is in high demand your chances of getting off the waitlist could be much slimmer than someone else with a less popular major.
I’m sorry to hear that! In regards to your questions about filling quotas, I read somewhere that Georgia Tech is trying to increase their female population. I’m a white female and I got accepted into chemical engineering, although I felt Georgia Tech was definitely a reach for me. My gender may have had an impact, but there’s no way to know. Good luck don’t lose hope!
