What does it mean to self-educate?

Not everyone is looking to have a lot of fun on campus. They just want the certification for career purposes.

Just the certification? Not an actual education? An attitude which is unfortunately all too common and one of the things that makes my job as demoralizing as it is.

That may be in part due to the high cost of college. Someone who wanted only the education and did not care about the certification aspects (or the college experience aspects) may balk at paying the cost of college if they were motivated enough to try self-education in whatever their subjects of interest are.

But, what does “self-education” even mean? Memorizing dates of historical events? Easier to do in technical courses than the humanities.

Well, I have a routine of watching at least one YouTube video a day of a topic I find interesting. Today I watched an interview with daryl davis, a black gentleman who converted many former KKK members. Highly inspirational individual, his lesson in patience, empathy and forgiveness that his story tells can’t be replicated in a college class.
