What does it mean when a coach gives your name

What does it mean when a coach e-mails a prospective athlete in September and needs to know whether they are applying ED or RD, because he needs to submit a list of names to the dean (of admissions?).

Does this mean that an athlete is recruited? Will this give an applicant more of a boost in the admission process (she is ED by the way).

My daughter has 14 honors/AP classes. A 3.9 GPA weighted (A's in her school are given on a 94 and up, not a 90 like many other schools), 1400 SATs, 710 bio satII, 710 US Histor SATII, 680 Writing SAtII, one excellent teacher rec (I didn't see the other one), an excellent supplement rec from her coach. I thought that her essays were original and on target (I've read too many how-to college books!!!!) so I think I can be a good judge on that. Her ECs were nice (note: most of her time was dedicated to her sport), but she did have three summers of being a candystriper, and the captain of the lacrosse team (which is her sport).

Will her application be tagged or marked indicating that a coach is interested in her? How much weight does that carry in the application process? As you can tell, there are no more fingernails left to bite....the wait is torture.

This is what I've read in various books by ex-Ivy admissions officers -

The coach gives the admissions office a list of the athletes he wants, ranking them from those he wants most on his team to those he wants comparatively least. The athletes on this list supposedly have their application flagged, and the reader takes how much the coach feels the applicant will help their team into account when doing a holistic review of the app.

Hope this helps! Sounds like your daughter has a good chance.
