What does it mean when a college only transfers x units?

Do they still consider all your units when deciding your qualification to be admitted? Say a school transfers 60 units, and my best 60 units I have a 3.6 in, but there were a few electives I took that I got poor grades in. Are those considered in my application decision?

Yes, those are considered. You will most likely be given subject credit for them—so if you got a C in psych 101, youll be given credit for psych 101 at your new institution.

You will only have 60 of the 120 (for example) credits completed required from graduation from the University, but every course you take will be given subject credit, barring unique situations.

You must report every grade on your transcript on your application. Your cumulative GPA will be used in the application process, not just your 60 best units.

What about a dumb little class like yoga or something. Are they at least considered differently? I took a yoga class and stopped going and got a D, and I took a holistic health class that I got a B in because I needed to fill units for sports eligibility after transferring to a school 3 weeks into their semester. I also took a kinesiology class that I got a C in. None of those fulfill any requirements. All the courses in the required curriculum I’ve done really well in, I’ve only gotten 3 B’s in them (4 if you include health… which is only required for CSU which I’m not applying to).

Yup all credits get looked at, so all grades matter.

How much any of them matter will depend on the policy of the place you apply to.

If the D was two years ago or more, look up “academic renewal” on your school’s website - you may be able to get it removed. The rest will all be considered, but hopefully your solid grades in the core subjects will get you where you want to go.

You will be in more trouble down the line if you don’t report than if you do. But yes I’d look into academic renewal nonetheless.

Academic renewal doesn’t remove it though it just changes your gpa with your school. The schools you apply to will calculate your gpa their own way.

Not all your better classes will get transfer credit. Usually there’s some process to make sure those course are equivalent to courses the 4 year U offers.
