what does it prove?

spanish is my first language...i just want to know if taking the spanish language ap test (not the class) will do me any good?...thanks

No, do not take it, do not take Spanish SAT IIs either. Not only does it make others look worse (percentiles), it also makes you look lazy.

how about if i am born here and can speak chinese, but cannot read or write, and learned that on my own... would the fact that my last name is stereotypically chinese make that look bad even tho i learned everything on my own initiative?

Is it really that bad? I mean it just says you know the language pretty well though. Not sure though.

i mean im not taking the sat 2 cuz im not im not proving anything...but since i can take as many ap exams as i want i was just wondering if its worthless to take it or not...i mean i kno its not like taking ap physics but maybe its better than nothing?

Taking the AP exam would be fine, but only if it isn't one of two or three that you take, if what you say is true, that you are taking as many as possible, then go for it.

Cujoe: It really depends on who sees it, the fact that you were born here will tell them that you at least had to learn the language, but it may have come easier...etc, its sort of opinion based. However, for the Chinese exam, most people are native speakers...the percentile for 800 usually ranges from 55-65, so there are a LOT of native speakers taking this particular test as compared to the other language tests.

Jeff: Yes, espescially for the SAT IIs...colleges only require you to take three, if you cannot find three other than those of your native language, its pretty pathetic, and they look down on it a LOT.

thanks... i guess i will take it! it is 56% tile btw

I'm currently trying to make my cousin get into Cornell. He's a freshmen with crap grades, but I'm getting to him now. Would taking 6 SATs and then have a 7th with Chinese help him?

Is he chinese and if not would he be able to score well? If he is already taking 6 SAT IIs, then yes, he can take chinese as well, just make sure he does well, doing badly will make you look bad, whereas doing well, even if you are chinese, having already taken 6 will only further show how knowledgeable you are.

i
m chinese myself, but i have decided not to take the SAT II Chinese. if you have a stereotypical chinese name, it
s best not to take it as one of your three (or is it two?) SAT IIs. it`s best to use it as a backup SAT (for those that are Chinese) to show "how knowledgeable you are," as jyankeesSS2 said.

cujoe - the admissions committee isn
t going to know that you studied Chinese on your own. you
ll have to let them know about that. most Chinese who take it already speak the language at home, so it is a bit pointless to take the SAT Chinese if you are Chinese.

jeff - in your case, the SAT Chinese may look good on your cousin if he scores well (use this SAT Subject Test as an 'extra,' not a primary one)

huh... well... i already have 3 gonna be 4 in the bag... so i'll take chinese as my 5th

that`s a good choice. :)

i plan on taking USH, Chem, Korean with MAth 2c and physics which i already took. Would taking Korean be detrimental since i lived in korea for 10 years? I don't want to take it, but it's the only way to fulfill the foreign language recommendation at many schools i plan on applying.
