What does it really take to be rescinded?

I currently have a D+ in precalc, but the rest of my grades are mostly A’s and one or two B’s. My gpa is 3.61 and I got a 1290 on the SAT. Would getting a D in precalc have any effect on my admissions to Indiana, Iowa, UK, or Tennessee so long as I get A’s and B’s in the rest of my classes (including two weighted classes). Thanks.

A grade of D or F in a course that was previously reported as in-progress on the application gives a high risk of rescission. Each college may have its own conditions of admission that will be given with the admission offer.

For a first semester 12th grade course grade of D or F, the colleges that you applied to may have a procedure to report that; check their web pages. Otherwise, it is generally a better idea to ask them early rather than surprise them next summer with a final high school transcript showing the D or F grade.

Rescind or affect admission - you ask two different questions. Have you already been accepted to all 4 schools?

If not, your grades will certainly affect acceptance - all grades do. Whether it’s enough to move below “the line” depends on how your entire application compares to other students. It will not immediately disqualify you, but it would be a negative data point among the dozens that they look at.

If you’ve already been accepted, I’m not sure I’d agree that it’s a high risk, but it is certainly in the area where it is a meaningful, non-trivial risk. Even raising it to a C- would be much better, and I’d say you’re fine with a C.

Seek out your teacher for assistance, extra credit opportunities, etc.

No D’s, no F’s, no felonies…

Right, can’t get “rescinded” until admitted. The impact of a D will depend on what major. If it’s stem, you have two problems: a) the college reaction and b) being sufficiently prepared for college stem courses.

Yes I have been admitted, that’s why I asked if it would effect my admission. So, I’m just asking if the D would get me rescinded. Sorry for the confusion.

@cjsilverman24: Since you have been admitted, did any of the schools give you a provisional admission contract specifying what you need to do to maintain your acceptance?

Common wisdom is not D’s or F’s Senior year, but I would contact each school and find out what you need to do to keep your acceptances.

Nobody can predict if one D+ will get your rescinded. However, you also need to be concerned that the grade may drop further as the class continues.

I would do everything you can to get that pre-calc grade into the C range – go to the teacher for extra help, use online resources (ex. Khan Academy), get a tutor etc. Start now or it will get harder and harder to catch up.
