I've gone over the prerequisites, but I would like a first hand opinion of what takes to be a competitive Haas applicant (besides GPA).

Details please! =D

Professor recommendations?
Research?
Employment/internship history?
Essays?
Does rigor of course factor in (for example, Math 1 vs. Math 16)?

Thank you!

There is no one true formula for getting into Haas. It’s like college admissions, and for some cases it’s unclear why one person got in while another didn’t. How to be competitive: maintain a high GPA (not necessarily a 3.9) especially with mostly As in the prereqs, do a few ECs like internships, clubs, work, etc that are substantial, and write solid cohesive essays. There are no professor recommendations in the application. Rigor’s not that important.
