What does it take to be a recruited athlete?

what does it take to be a recruited athlete (for Div III and for Div I), say for cross-country? how many years of experience do you need to have? and what is the average time per mile?

A lot. I'm a cross-country/track runner myself. Got any times for me? Preferrably track times, since XC times are so varied based on course length, difficulty, conditions and competition.

I can start you out with this. We had a 1:59 800 runner last year who got recruited by a few places, but no schools were making enormous pushes to get him.

if you don't get recruited, you can still walk-on if you greatly improve yourself and earn an atheltic scholarship that way.

you can't be technically recruited for diii but you can for di. i mean, you can be in conversation with a diii coach and that can help you out and 'push for you' in the admissions process, but thats about it because they don't technically have athletic scholarships and the likes.
