I'm thinking about applying to one of the boarding schools like Deerfield in the 2012-2013 school year. I will be a junior then. Right now I go to a school in China called Shanghai American School.

The thing I am most worried about is that I wasn't that involved in my freshmen year, and my grades during the second semester wasn't that good. During my first semester I got a GPA of 3.72 on a 4.0 scale, with mostly A's and got High Honor Roll. My second semester I got around 3.4, and quite a lot of B's and a few A's, but I think I still got an Honor Roll. The activities I participated in my freshmen year was Community Service, and Relay for Life.

I know I didn't do so well during my freshmen year, but do you think I'll be able to get into a boarding school if I participate more and get higher grades in my sophomore year?

And also, for the people that have been accepted, what were their grades and activities like?
I REALLY want to get in. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I can also play the piano, flute, guitar, and am fluent in Chinese.

Uniqueness, Academic achievements, good SSAT scores, Diversity, Sports, Commitment, and Good Recommendations. Also important to have EC’s. That is what I think every school would want you for.

outstanding interview, essays, application. Stand out from the typical applicant. Make the AO´s want you in their community. I´m known on CC for saying the you dont need the BEST SSAT´s to get into prep school. My friend who is going to Exeter in the fall got high 70 (no hook) and i got low 60´s and got into Choate and 3 other prep schools. Get above the 60´s and you´ll be OK, but itll mean that your other application materials have to be extra strong

i dont have a hook

@unsaidpromises OMG WE’RE FROM THE SAME SCHOOL.
Pudong campus or Puxi campus?!?!?!

lol Pudong and Puxi, good times lol

@BronxKid I think it’s on what you define as a “hook.” I heard you play volleyball… Is that a hook? Meh…I’m confused a bit (:

i cant define it exactly, as it is too vague and could be anything really… i dont think thats a hook thoo… im as confused about hooks as you are
