I really, really want to go to law school at UC Davis. I am a junior psychology major. I am shooting for around a 3.5+ (have a 3.4 now) GPA at graduation. I have a lot of small things that wont show up on GPA or LSAT that I think would make me stand out as an applicant. Will that help at all? I heard Davis is big on diversity! Have no idea how I will score on LSAT, yet. Has anyone applied or does any one know what it takes to get in at UC Davis law school, anything like the average/mean/minimum GPA and LSAT to get accepted with?

<a href=“Search for Law Schools – LSAC Official Guide | The Law School Admission Council”>Search for Law Schools – LSAC Official Guide | The Law School Admission Council; 3.56/162 average. The LSAT/GPA are by far the most important factors, soft factors (EC’s, LOR, etc.) account I’d say for about 10% in their final decision with GPA/LSAT making up the other 90%, but there’s also huge bonus points if you’re an URM or come from an unrepresented area.

The other question, of course, is: what do you want to do with a law degree? Davis might not be your best option.

you REALLY need to know where you stand on the LSAT before you even start thinking about where to attend law school. take a practice test (there’s one available for free on lsac.org) and do some reading as to how much you can / should be able to improve before you take the real thing. that will give you a better idea of where you can attend…i mean, if you score a 162 on your practice test you could start thinking about boosting that 10 points and shooting for UC Berkeley or UCLA…but if you score a low 150, you know you’ll have to work your butt off to have a chance at Davis and might want to start thinking of some better matched schools

3.5/172 has little hope at Cal, they’re the one school that might weigh GPA over LSAT. But yea, once you take the diagnostic, and then once you’ve studied a while, you should get a better grasp of what schools you’re shooting for. If you’re scoring a 170, you’d have a good shot at a lower T14 and UCLA, if you’re scoring a 155, then you might consider something more along the lines of McGeorge.

Why might Davis not be a good choice? Do most of its graduates end up going into some kind of career path where they help a lot of disadvantaged people but dont make any money? Which results in their massive student loans not being paid off until they are ready to collect social security? I live in nor cal now and want to stay in the area to work/live my whole life. I live near Davis, love the school, and think their tuition is very reasonable compared to others. I also think there is a better chance of being accepted the other public UCs. I not interested in going into a huge law firm. I don’t have any aspirations of becoming a famous big shot lawyer either. I just started seriously looking into law school and I am still researching all of the possibilities.

Well, it depends on what you want to do.
