What does it take to get money on merit?

<p>What kind of stats do you need, and did applying early make a whole lot of difference... i have decent stats (all SATs over 700, 1510 SAT, 4.0, 8 APs, ranked in top ten etc...) but i only applied on Oct. 29... is there hope for any sort of merital aid?</p>

<p>Well, if you are out of state you may get some merit aid. I wouldn't bet on it though. Unfortunately every other kid at Mich has stats similar to yours. If you are looking for a good merit package apply to schools where you will be the cream of the crop. I wish Mich gave more money than they do, they spend SO much of their money on research, they know people will go there without any aid just because it is such a good school, so they give very little aid as a result.</p>

<p>yeah, i knew there wasnt much hope, and i think i have external aid coming for me, so hopefully money just wont be an issue then.</p>

<p>I disagree, only 25% of people at Michigan have SATs higher than 1330 (30 ACT), and ranisparkle has a 1510. I'm not saying this will result in them giving him aid, but to say he's an average applicant is misleading.</p>

<p>lol she, haha. thanks for that! i'm fairly confident that i can get in.. though i wont count my chickens before they hatch. I'm not sure about honors college stats however, im sure they are QUITE competitive, and for aid i know its VERY much so. I have other "hooks" i guess, i look around this board though and i feel very small all of a sudden though, lol.</p>

<p>according to the website, lsa gives out 70 out of a class of 4000 (Shipman, etc. on top of that), or less than 2%. There are a few others with more restrictive requirements. In an archived thread, someone claimed Engineering gives out 10%, but that is not confirmed by their website. I'm sure you can contact them for more details.</p>
