What does JHU like to see "waitlisted" Applicants to submit?

I got waitlisted, and the letter said that JHU strongly recommends updating my app. with more information.

What types of thing do they like to see? Can you please be very specific/detailed, I really appreaciate your inputs!!!!

Would sending resumes, 3rd quarter grades, and list of current activities, and summer internships be good?

Also, my resume has a portion where its straight 40-lines of "laundry list" type list of awards and extra-curricular; is this a bad thing...should I condense? What should I include on my resume?

Is addition recs from teachers a bad idea? What if I get the same teacher I had before who gave me a rec for JHU give another rec, again for JHU?

THANKS MUCH :)

I sent ONE e-mail to a dean of admissions. Not the one in charge, but one of the ones that looks at my area.

I said to them that I was still very interested in Hopkins, I would attend if let in off of the waitlist. I told them that I had recently led my debate team to state tournament and we won (I was captian). I also said that I had won a scholarship given to one student at my high school for outstanding achivement in the social studies. I finished by discussing the independent study I was doing on Irish History.

I was accepted in early May.

That's all I did. No phone calls, no letters, no faxes...

Maybe you could call Hopkins and ask what aspects of your application is lacking. I've never done this, but I heard some others did...don't know if it's true though, but you could give it a try
G'luck!

Don't try calling. If you were waitlisted, nothing is lacking. All YOU can do in this situation is express interest. C'est tout. it's out of your hands.

where are you going if you don't get off the WL?

Does promptness factor in? Like, which would be better, if I take my time to gather information and write a solid "Why I want to go" essay, but send it in closer to the deadline, or just send what I have now ASAP?

Also, does visiting the campus factor in? I've had a lot of people tell me that it'd probably be best if I visited.

Thanks.

After I got in, I was told that the adcom already has a handful of students taht they want to admit. They just want to see them express interest. If you're not in this handful shrug there is very little you can do. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news (after all, I got in, and I was very unspecial) but don't waste your time and money visiting, don't write long essays. Just write a note sayign oyu are still interested and update them on real updates. Start to love the other school you are going to. Every night before I went to sleep I chanted "I love GW" over andover to myself. It's seirously the best thign oyu can do. Don't sweat it.

Promptness...eh. If you do it within the first three weeks of april that should be good enough.

They are looking for something substantial. Straight A+s or A's, substantial awards, first place in any competitions, that sort of stuff Interest is key, they won't take you off the waitlst if you do not express interest. An additional recommendation letter from someone affiliated with JHU or someone who is incredibly important or well known, credible might help.

Even if you don't get into Hopkins (worst case scenario), it's not a big loss. Many people who don't get into their first choice end up very very happy at their "back up" school. There are always a lot of other choices out there...(sorry for being cliche)

What's the deadline for sending in waitlist updates?

I got an additional letter of recommendation (physics, previous 2 were in math), new transcript (community college and HS), a letter of interest, and an update on debate progress. I could send it now - but I have a big debate on April 26th that I might want to add on a debate update.

Anywho, as you can tell, I really want to go to Hopkins. A lot.

Do it before May 1st, obviously. After then they'll look at waitlisted canidates.

I'm not sure if you have seen the following page posted on the Hopkins Interactive forum, it provides an extensive amount of information regarding waitlisted students (Q&A format):

Hopkins Forums -> Wait List Discussion Thread (2008-09)

I also believe there were several posts last year regarding waitlisted students on the Hopkins Interactive blog, (hopkins.typepad.com), just conduct a Google search to find them...
