The Liberal Studies Program, under the aegis of the Faculty of Arts and Science, is a two-year interdisciplinary liberal arts program offered to select students at Washington Square and at several NYU sites abroad. Students who successfully complete the program transition to the school or college they selected when they applied.

While all students at NYU will have a liberal arts component in their curriculum, a select group of freshmen determined by the Admissions Committee will be offered the opportunity begin their studies at NYU in the Liberal Studies Program. Both the Liberal Studies Program and the College of Arts and Science are under the aegis of the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Students who are offered this opportunity begin their studies with a two-year interdisciplinary liberal arts education, including a writing sequence and core courses that introduce them to great books from the ancient world to the present. These courses fulfill the bachelor’s degree liberal arts requirements for several of NYU’s schools and colleges. After successful completion of this program, which is offered at Washington Square and at several NYU sites abroad, students transition directly into the school or college offering the program that they selected when they originally applied to the University.
