soo i took math 2 in like june, and i did horrible, so for october i think i’m just going to take math 1.
idk if i should buy a prep book for it tho?? like is the math super straight forward? is it similar to the math on the ACT?
what concepts should i glance over? really aiming for a 750+!
Why do you want to take math1? Are you applying to the handful of test flexible colleges?
If not, your subject tests are supposed to be in your two BEST subjects.
Math1 covers roughly the same as the regular SAT with less advanced algebra (but that only impacts a dozen questions max).
If you did horrible on math 2, you will need sustained work to get a 750, not a “glance” at concepts. Very few students get 700+ in that test because the curve is wicked.
@MYOS1634 yep, basically all of the schools i’m applying to don’t require subject tests. i am applying to top schools, so i would like to take subject tests that i would do well in!!! i took precalculus during the summer going into junior year and am now a senior taking multivariable calculus. i really don’t have the time to go through the entire precalculus curriculum just to prep for the math 2 test, so i just wanted to take the math 1. i am pretty good at math and have gotten a 34 on the math ACT, so if the material is comparable, i’ll just take it.
also, i’m not going into engineering or anything, so i really doubt it’ll matter that i took math 1 instead of 2.
Well, Math 1 is seen as pretty useless, unless you are applying test flexible (ie, Math1 would replace ACT Math, but since ACT Math is more advanced the college doesn’t get any further information about you if you submit both.) Remember it’s not a list of requirements to check, you’re building your profile.
You’re supposed to pick your two best subjects. If you’re not applying to STEM, pick among English Literature, a History test, or a Foreign Language.
