Hey I just checked my financial aid howdy portal and its a lot to digest. It seems as if Texas A&M is one of the most confusing schools regarding scholarships that I have applied for. In total i received the following awards…
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan - 3500
Federal Direct Unsub Loan - 2000
Federal Parent Loan - 44,462 (I have no idea what this means)
Federal Pell Grant - 606
Thats pretty much it… No scholarships or anything.
A little about me
Petroleum Engineering Intended major
95.8 gpa (we dont do 4.0 scale at my school)
1420 new SAT
Varsity Golf
NHS
Music Honor Society
and a bunch more ither clubs and activities
I am just trying to understand what all these things mean because my mother doesn’t really understand much about them either. Any help would be appreciated. Am hoping that more awards are coming out but I dont think I’ll get to the $4,000 mark for the In-State waiver. Looks like tamu, even though a great program and university, will end up costing me close to $50,000 for the upcoming year 
It looks like you’d be full pay there. You can only borrow ~$5500/year on your own. It’s not really a good idea to take more than that. The Parent Loan is a PLUS loan your parents would have to cosign for every year. This college is unaffordable. Do you have affordable options on your list?
Some other programs that I’ve heard back about scholarship stuff would be
LSU - paying about 25,000 a year
WVU - paying about 15,000 a year
a lot of schools I am still waiting to hear back from the scholarship department.
