What does "note a qualification" mean?

CR Question #14 BB 2nd edition Test 3 Section 4

In the context of the question, qualification “refers to a limitation or restriction that narrows the scope of language that would otherwise carry a broader meaning”.

So the qualification might be an exception of some kind. Examples might be an “idiom” with the qualification that it is from “Modern English and not yet widely accepted”, or that the use of “speed” in referring to a vehicle “is what you’d expect on rural roads rather than on Los Angeles freeways”.

In the context of the actual use of “yawning” in the passage there is no attempt to “restrict” the meaning, so the answer is definitely not C.

I had to read the entire passage before I could come up with the right answer. It is not meant to be humorous or personal – simply factual research results. So in the context of the passage it is simply a definition for “yawning”. (I wouldn’t have thought that one was needed – but such is science.)
