What does one do with an English/Creative Writing/Literature degree?

It is hard to know exactly what to do when money is of concern. Back in my day, it was ok that I went to three differet colleges for three different majors and graduated in seven years, with another three years in grad school to earn two teaching credentials. I came out of school with a few thousand in loans after all that, and had I stayed in special education for the full five years, would have had the majority of my loans forgiven. (Back then it was NDSL and it was forgiven after five years of working in either low income areas or special education; not sure if they have that now)

We simply don’t have the luxury of having school cost $1000 or less a year anymore. Even community college, a true bargain, costs more than that now.

At any rate, my dad is helping cover the cost of app fees, so our son is casting as wide a net as is sensible in terms of writing essays and submitting arts supplements without burning him out. I think if we’re careful in terms of possible majors on this end of the process, he’ll be ok happy-wise when the choices come down.
