well...firstly, i think admissions are VERY random....although i believe certain formulas are used to determine if an applicant can "handle" the rigor of an ivy league school, i doubt these formulas are the main ingredient in the admission process.....since admissions officers are HUMAN, they are naturally going to like one person over another for no "good" reason.....its just a matter of taste...if you do model UN and are a star in it, but another applicant plays field hockey and is pretty good, the admissions officer may choose the field hockey girl because the admissions officer herself played the sport....something as simple as that may determine acceptance (if that field hockey girl was "qualified," of course)....also, the school may need different things each year....maybe penn needs a good viola player for its orchestra, and you happen to play viola very well (boom! youre in over a person with everything the same as you except he would have piano instead of your viola).....for each program and school, what "they want" is different...im sure wharton and engineering concentrate on math much more than the college does....ill list who got in from my school to maybe help you

well...hope that helps...obviously everyone had good SATs and generally good ECs......no one from my school was accepted because of his/her sole science prowess....everyone did well in humanities (in school and in ECs).....also, we are from new jersey, which makes it HARD to get in.....if you are in a state like nebraska or idaho, you have it a lot easier.....a bunch of factors are NOT in your control....location, race, admissions officer's mood/personal preferences, what the college wants....etc....just do your best....and hope for the best
good luck
